volunteerDedicated and active volunteers are the heart and soul of JDRF. Individuals and groups are carefully matched with opportunities to to maximize time, talents, and skills. There are many ways you can make a difference in the lives of people with type 1 diabetes (T1D).

OUTREACH

  • Community Outreach Partner

Community outreach provides support to families in the community through partnering with the Outreach Manager to host meetings, gatherings, or group events where individuals may connect with others from the T1D community to network and support one another. Ex. Dia-Buddies, Newly Diagnosed Brunch, Health Fairs, Adults with T1D Network, Support Groups

  • Community Engagement Partner

Community engagement types of gatherings are an effective way to bring the T1D community together, cultivate relationships, and help instill JDRF as an important part of the T1DĀ community. These events provide research information, health education, and awareness to the community. Ex. TypeOneNation Summit, Wipeout T1D Day at the Boardwalk, Root Beer Float Day with the Oakland Aā€™s, T1D Day with the San Jose Earthquakes, Ready Set Go College

  • T1D Connections Program, Outreach Volunteer (For parents of children living with T1D)

JDRF T1D Connections Program Outreach Volunteers play the lead role in building relationships with newly diagnosed families/ individuals- welcoming, supporting, guiding, and connecting them to the larger T1D community and JDRF. Relationships are built through phone calls, sending monthly emails, personally inviting them to join you at chapter events, and identifying opportunities for further engagement.

ADVOCACY

  • Advocacy Volunteer

Our work in Washington, DC is critical to moving us closer to a cure for T1D, as well as moving projects forward now that will help patients better treat and manage their T1D.

  • Speakerā€™s Bureau

We often call on trained speakers to present to local companies, health fairs, etc.Ā  Having a bureau of speakers to call on throughout the year is vital to spreading awareness about T1D, JDRF and our mission.

FUNDRAISING

  • JDRF One Walk

JDRF One Walk is our flagship fundraising event and the largest type 1 diabetes (T1D) event in the world. The funds and awareness raised by our dedicated walkers, volunteers and sponsors help us create a world without T1D. The JDRF One Walk is a family-friendly fundraising event featuring entertainment, food, and fun.

How you can help: Join the committee. Walk with us!Ā  Form a Family, Corporate, or Organization Walk Team. You can also make a donation in support of a Walker, a team, sponsor the event, provide in-kind support, sell sneakers, organize a Kids Walk at your childā€™s school, or volunteer the day of.

  • Tee to Table Half Moon Bay Golf Tournament

Tee to Table is a premier golf tournament and evening culinary experience on the beautiful California coast! It features a golf scramble on the Ocean course and a 24 person round-robin tennis tournament, followed by cocktails, dinner, live auction and entertainment. Leaders of Silicon Valleyā€”bankers, entrepreneurs, friends, lawyers and familiesā€”all come together for this fun, relaxed and social JDRF fundraising event.

  • Ride to Cure Diabetes

Riders from around the world take on two challenges: raising the money needed to fund research for better treatments and a cure for T1D and reaching a personal training goal to prepare for a destination cycling experience.

  • YLC (Young Leadership Committee)

Comprised of young professionals who are dedicated to raising awareness and funds for JDRF. The committee hosts various fundraising, networking, and social events that attract hundreds of young professionals from 21-40 years old.

  • Third Party/Team JDRF

Through other JDRF Programs, you can raise critical dollars for JDRF by putting together your own special event/promotion or join an existing endurance event to help in the fight for a cure for T1Dā€”and help keep JDRF expenses low so that close to every dollar raised can go directly to research.

  • Hope Gala

The Hope Gala is JDRFā€™s most high profile networking opportunity and most successful annual fundraiser in the Greater Bay Area. This Black tie event includes a cocktail reception, presentation of the Living & Giving Award, a spectacular live auction and Fund a Cure program, gourmet dinner, and an After Party with live music and dancing. With 400 attendees, the Hope Gala is a fun and inspirational event that offers supporters the opportunity to be socially conscious community leaders who help turn Type One into Type None.

  • Summer Classic East Bay Golf Tournament

LEADERSHIP

  • JDRF Greater Bay Area Chapter Board

Greater Bay Area Board Members serve for 2 year terms, with a max of 3 consecutive terms. All Greater Bay Area Board Members commit to serve as ambassadors to implement the vision and mission of JDRF at the local level. All Board Member candidates go through an interview process with the Board Development Committee and must be voted on to the Board by current Board Members.

OFFER YOUR TALENTS

Volunteers are an invaluable asset to the success of JDRFā€™s events and programs as well as to our larger research funding goals.Ā  By donating time and energy, volunteers allow us to contribute more dollars to our ongoing research efforts.Ā  In addition to helping with any of the above efforts, there are many ways to assist the JDRF staff at a fundraising event or in the office, including:Ā  mailings, making phone calls, data entry, joining a committee, and pre- and post-event support.
