9 a.m.: Welcome & Opening Remarks

Dr. Steven Gabbe and professional backcountry snowboarder with T1D Sean Busby will welcome you to the 2016 TypeOneNation Summit.

10:30-11:20 a.m.: Breakout Session I

Technology – Shots and Pumps and CGMs, oh my!

Diabetes research continues to evolve, so it can be hard to fully understand the different technologies and therapies.  Come to learn more about the different options so you can make informed decisions for your T1D management.  We will also be discussing new therapies on the horizon.

Teens Only – No parents allowed!

Calling all teenagers… This session is for you!  Come to meet other teens who live each and every with the same disease.  You can share similar experiences and openly discuss what it’s like to live with T1D.  If you don’t want to ask a question to your parents or doctors, ask it here! Moderators will include school administrators and school nurses.

Emotions & Diabetes – This diabetes roller coaster is playing with my mind!

Sometimes the emotional aspect of T1D can be more draining than the actual disease.  This session provides a safe environment for T1Ds to discuss living with this 24/7 disease.  Certified counselors will be present to facilitate and monitor discussions.

Don’t have T1D but still feel like you’re on an emotional rollercoaster because a loved one lives with the disease?  Come and speak with others who try their hardest to support a T1D!

Diabetes & Exercise – Let’s make it work(out)!

Exercise is a great way to relieve stress and manage blood sugar readings.  While we know why exercise is so beneficial, it can be difficult to work out and stay motivated with T1D.  Come listen to Sean Busby, a professional backcountry snowboarder, discuss how he manages T1D amidst his busy training schedule.

11:20 a.m. - 12:20 p.m.: Lunch on your own

Enjoy lunch at the Nationwide Hotel & Conference Center’s Dining Room or Pub, or leave the campus to grab a bite at one of the many nearby restaurants.

12:20-12:50 p.m.: Afternoon Keynote with Dr. Liang Guo, OSU Professor of Electrical & Computer Engineering

Learn more about the amazing JDRF-funded research happening right here at OSU.

1-1:50 p.m.: Breakout Session II

Diagnosed as Adults – Life with T1D

Adult diagnoses of T1D are becoming more common – but even for the most change-embracing adult, it can be difficult to understand the ups and downs of Type 1 Diabetes.  If you want to live a happy and healthy life, constant diabetes management is necessary.  Come to this session to speak with other adults who have been thriving for years with T1D.  Learn ways to continue adapting to your new normal!

Females & Diabetes – Isn’t being a woman hard enough?

We all know emotions and hormones play into your blood sugar management. Learn what to expect during the different women’s health events from puberty, pregnancy and menopause.

Out of High School, Now What?

You may be ready to embark on your new adventure, but are you ready to manage your T1D?  Going off to college or living away from home with T1D doesn’t have to be scary!  Listen to college students and young adults share their T1D experiences in college, internships and beginning careers.
