2017 Volunteer Award Winners
At the 2017 Annual Chapter meeting that was held on Tuesday, June 13th, some outstanding JDRF volunteers were recognized for their dedication, efforts, and determination in making type 1 turn into type none.
The 2017 Volunteer Award Winners
Rosalie Maggio Award: Karen Lotman
A lifetime achievement award provided to an individual who emulates Rosalie Maggio’s true spirit of volunteerism. Winners are selected and presented their award by Rosalie’s daughter Maria Maggio Marfuggi.
Volunteer of the Year: Heather & Al Giacoio
Awarded to an individual volunteer that has provided extraordinary, measurable impact across multiple chapter priority areas (fundraising, outreach, government relations, volunteer development)
Corporate Partner Award: AmerisourceBergen/Good Neighbor Pharmacy
Awarded to an employer who engages their organization and workforce in supporting JDRF fundraising, mission and volunteer priorities.
Passion Award: Amy Kirk
Awarded to an individual whose passion for JDRF’s vision of a world without type 1 diabetes is evident in how they represent JDRF in the community, engage others with the organization and instill their passion in those around them.
Young Leadership Award: Mike Reintjes
Awarded to an individual under the age of 40 who has made significant contributions to the JDRF mission.
Innovation Award: Bonnie O’Neil
Awarded an individual or group who introduces a new and creative way to achieve the JDRF mission (fundraising, outreach, advocacy, volunteerism), with high impact that aligns with organizational priorities and capacity.
Unsung Hero: Steven and Scott Schwartz
Awarded to an individual who makes a significant contribution to the chapter’s success behind the scene, without serving in leadership capacity.

Rookies of the Year: Daniel Romanelli
Awarded to an individual who has distinguished themselves within their first twelve months of service to JDRF.
