Lisa and Richard, both lawyers, have 2 daughters and live in Baltimore County, Maryland. Their older daughter Alex is an engineering student at Case Western Reserve University. Jocelyn, their younger daughter who is now 15, was diagnosed with T1D at age 11 – since that diagnosis, Lisa and Richard have been deeply involved in Jocelyn’s care and heavily focused on technological advancements that help make Jocelyn’s daily routine less taxing. Lisa spends time assisting parents of newly diagnosed children. Richard has been a JDRF Board Member for 2 years with a major focus on the Gala and Walk events. Their dream is for T1D patients to be able to make use of technological and pharmaceutical advancements to make their daily lives near-normal while a moonshot cure is developed.

Star of Hope Award Recepient
It is our honor to introduce this year’s recipient of the Star of Hope Award–Tom Kane. Tom has worked tirelessly for our JDRF chapter for more than a decade. From Tom’s role as Corporate Chair for the Walk for the last two years to serving as Board President, Nominating Chair, shaping the board we have today–Tom has put an immeasurable amount of time, dedication, and effort into raising awareness and funds in our fight against type 1 diabetes (T1D). In fact, he exemplifies the true meaning of this award—an enduring commitment to JDRF’s vision for a world without type 1 diabetes, and working to make a difference for all those impacted by T1D. Tom, we are deeply grateful to have leaders like you in our chapter and for your extraordinary efforts to help find a cure for T1D!
