Networking Coffee Support Groups

Networking Coffees are meetings in the home of a JDRF volunteer that provide information and support to parents who have children with type 1 diabetes.  Meetings are held September through May on various days and times throughout each month across eastern and central Massachusetts.  These meetings are a way for parents to interact, share diabetes management tips, and learn about JDRF.

A variety of topics are covered, such as travel, school issues, pump therapy, nutrition, and how to choose a babysitter.  In addition, JDRF holds regular Specialty Networking Coffee programs that take place at larger venues and cover issues such as Diabetes in College, New Diabetes Technology, and Diabetes Management in Early Childhood.  We have also implemented a Kids Meeting Kids program, which offers the opportunity for children with diabetes and their siblings to meet and have some fun, while their parents are able to network and share their experiences.

We encourage all families to attend, as our Networking Coffees are not limited to the newly diagnosed.  Parents who have been "been there and done that" also have the opportunity to learn, share ideas, and provide much-needed support to families with a recent diagnosis.

Would you like to become more involved in these programs? If you are interested in hosting a Networking Coffee or helping to organize a Kids Meeting Kids event in your local community, please contact Lauren Shields at (781) 431-0700 x18 or lshields@jdrf.org, or complete the host application.  Are you a health professional interested in speaking at a Networking Coffee or Specialty Program?  Complete the speakers' resource list questionnaire.
