Welcome to the Tulsa Green Country Chapter! The Tulsa Green Country Chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation International (JDRFI) began in 1996 with two local mothers of children with type 1 diabetes. Volunteers, along with the support of JDRF planned and held the first Tulsa Walk to Cure Diabetes which raised $60,000. In 1997, JDRF placed staff support in Tulsa and the first Board of Directors was formed. The Tulsa Chapter holds two major fundraising events each year: the Walk to Cure Diabetes and the Promise Ball (formerly known as the Dream Gala). With an active Board of Directors, we also offer local programs to support newly diagnosed individuals and their families. Direct medical and indirect costs related to diabetes exceed $2.1 billion annually in the state of Oklahoma alone. Our chapter contributes more than $1,000,000 annually to type 1 diabetes research, but we need to do more. Providing the community with the most up-to-date research information, the Tulsa Chapter is hopeful and determined that a cure is on the way. Please join us in finding a cure. |
