![]() | ![]() One Road To Hope: JDRF's Artificial Pancreas Project at the University of Virginia September 17, 2009 Continuous Glucose Monitors: Even More of a Good Thing For a while now, JDRF has been conducting clinical trials on the effectiveness of continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) for people with type 1 diabetes. Last year, they issued their first two reports on their findings, showing that CGMs can improve control even for people who already have A1c's below 7%. Now JDRF has released their third and fourth reports, and they even more strongly support the use of CGMs. According to their studies, which were recently published online by the journal Diabetes Care, the regular use of a CGM is a more important contributor to good control of blood sugar than age or background. January 5, 2009 Good News: United Issues New CGM Coverage Policy United, which serves 70 million Americans, has just issued a great new policy which provides long-term coverage for continuous glucose monitoring for people with type 1 diabetes who are following a physician ordered treatment plan and either have been unable to achieve optimum glycemic control or have experienced hypoglycemia unawareness.
