View the Webcast

JDRF's Global Diabetes Research Forum, held on May 12, 2006, convened a group of talented researchers and JDRF scientific staff to discuss the latest strategies for moving research toward treatments and cures for diabetes in the shortest possible timeframe.

View these inspiring presentations today and find out why so many scientists and people in the diabetes community are excited about therapeutics, such as the artificial pancreas, that will transform diabetes care until a cure is found!

Among the highlights:

  • Richard A. Insel, JDRF Executive Vice President for Research, gives an overview of JDRF's research strategy and the Artificial Pancreas Project.
  • Paul Burn, Ph.D., JDRF Senior Vice President, Research, discusses JDRF's strategy of getting products to market more quickly by increasing research focused on specific therapeutic targets.
  • Aaron Kowalski, Ph.D., JDRF Director, Strategic Research Projects, talks about JDRF's Artificial Pancreas Project and the potential that continuous glucose monitors and the artificial pancreas both have to improve diabetes care.
  • William Tamborlane, M.D., Professor and Chief of Pediatric Endocrinology, Yale University School of Medicine, describes how far daily care has progressed in the last 25 years, due especially to blood glucose meters and pump therapy.
  • Stuart Weinzimer, M.D., Associate Professor of Pediatrics, Yale University School of Medicine, describes the very encouraging results of a study conducted at Yale to test an artificial pancreas on children with type 1 diabetes.
  • Dayton Coles, JDRF Research and Development Committee, talks about the organization's partnerships with industry and increased emphasis on developing therapeutics.
