Diabetes Education and Support Programs

JDRF's Diabetes Education and Support Programs are a way for individuals and families at all stages of type 1 diabetes (T1D) to interact, find support, share advice and tips, and learn more about JDRF and current topics related to diabetes management.  Programs are held in the JDRF office, a volunteer's home or place of business, a local school, or library.  Learn more about upcoming programs!

A variety of topics are covered, such as travel, school issues, pump therapy, nutrition, and family issues.  We have also implemented a Kids Meeting Kids program, which offers the opportunity for children with diabetes and their siblings to meet and have some fun, while their parents are able to network and share their experiences.  In addition, we will be planning future programs for adults living with T1D.

We encourage all families and individuals to attend, as these programs are not limited to the newly diagnosed.  Those who have "been there and done that" also have the opportunity to learn, share ideas, and provide much-needed support to families with a recent diagnosis.

Would you like to become more involved in setting up a program in your area?  Please contact Lauren Shields at (781) 431-0700 or
lshields@jdrf.org if you are interested in hosting a meeting in your local communityThese meetings range from an informal gathering at someone's home or the library, a Moms Night Out at a local restaurant, or a fun activity that includes kids or teens.  Meetings can be held as frequently as needed - once a year, monthly, quarterly, etc. - and on days and times that work best for the host.  There is a lot of flexibility, as these meetings are driven and coordinated by you - our volunteers!

JDRF Can Help By:
  • Including the meeting information on our website and in our regular email updates.
  • Spreading the word to newly diagnosed families through the Bag of Hope program.
  • Sending a flyer template for you to customize, share with friends and other families in your area, and post at your child's school, doctor's office, library, grocery store, coffee shop, etc.
  • Providing hand-outs about JDRF and different topics related to diabetes management for attendees.
