JDRF Illuminates the CURE - Sponsors and Guest help to raise over $615,000 at 11th Annual Promise Gala - The 2008 Promise Gala: Illuminate the Cure was a magical, starlit evening of hope for the more than 650 guests who attended on April 26. Promise Gala patrons saw the Indianapolis Marriott Downtown transform into an enchanted forest where they could do their part to help raise money for research. The exciting live auction featured a one-week stay in a luxurious home in Telluride, Colorado and a private, catered dinner party for eight with special guest Tony Dungy. Guests ended the night dancing to the sounds of local favorite, Toy Factory!  Thank you to everyone who supported the 2008 Gala through sponsorship, ticket purchase, support of Fund-A-Cure, auction bidding and volunteering. Because of your contributions we have been able to continue accelerating the pace to further illuminate the path to a cure.

A message from our Board President....

Greetings!

I am very excited to begin a new year for Indiana State Chapter of JDRF as Chapter President.  We have a terrific and dedicated Board of Directors and they are full of talent and energy.  Last year we again surpassed all of our goals and we look forward to doing even better this year.

The advances towards a cure for Type I Diabetes in the last year are truly astounding and let there be no doubt, we will succeed in our mission to fund that cure. The dedicated and passionate volunteers and staff who make up JDRF are an impatient group.  We not only want to find a cure, but we want it soon!  This means keeping our eye on our mission - to find a cure for Type 1 Diabetes and its complications through research - and to focus on our core activities to increase our fundraising.

The success of our outreach efforts has been amazing and was recognized at our Annual National Meeting in Washington, D.C. in June. The tremendous achievement of the Southern Indiana Walk this past spring is a reflection of that success. We will maintain and build upon our momentum with new community events in the coming year. We had another record-breaking Gala and plans are already underway for next year! Our walks are just around the corner and I encourage everyone to participate in any way they can. Now, more than ever, we need our grass roots advocates to remind our elected officials support legislation that increases funding for Type 1 Diabetes research and promotes the well-being of individuals with Type 1 Diabetes.

As a privileged attendee at the JDRF Annual Conference this past May, I can assure you that our excitement and anticipation is shared across the country. JDRF has set lofty goals. We are not only actively directing the most productive research towards a cure, we are also using our strength in advocacy to lobby government and industry to insure that the exciting advances in diabetes therapy will be accessible to all.  We are part of a dynamic and committed organization determined to put itself out of business. I look forward to working alongside you to make that goal a reality.

We've succeeding in outdoing ourselves every year. I have no doubt that this year will be no exception. Please join me in making the coming year the best yet!

Henry Rodriguez, M.D.

Chapter President
