Over 450 guests attended the Roaring 20th Anniversary JDRF Dream Gala on Saturday, April 7th at Embassy Suites-Lincoln where a record-setting $410,000 was raised to fund research towards better treating, preventing, and ultimately curing type 1 diabetes (T1D). Guests came together united for a cause and as a result of their generosity, children and adults living with T1D will have access to new, life changing technologies that will make managing the disease easier and safer for them, and their loved ones.
Dream Gala guests experienced a night like no other as the Embassy Suites ballroom was transformed into a 1920’s Great Gatsby inspired affair with a hosted speakeasy cocktail reception, a silent auction filled with one-of-a-kind items, and a gourmet dual-entree dinner. Gina Sherwood-Klein from B107.3 served as the emcee for the night which also included a fabulous live auction. Highlights included a luxury boutique Brooklyn NYC getaway for two, a five-course private chef dinner for twelve, and a “Music City” concert experience in Nashville including a three night hotel stay as well as tickets to see Taylor Swift as well as Beyonce and Jay Z.
An inspiring Fund A Cure program concluded the evening with the story of the Gokie Family. In addition to the 20th Anniversary of the Dream Gala, 2018 marks Justin Gokie’s 20th year living with T1D. Over the past two decades, through JDRF-funded research, the Gokie family has witnessed firsthand the impact of advances in treatment that keep those impacted by T1D healthier and safer while decreasing the daily burden of the disease. These advances, as well as those on the horizon, would not be possible without the generosity of those in our community. We are grateful to those who continue moving us closer to a world without T1D as well as to the Gokie family for sharing their story of progress and hope.
The Lincoln and Greater Nebraska Chapter staff and board of Directors sincerely appreciate all the people who made the 20th Anniversary Dream Gala a huge success, including each and every guest, auction donor, and volunteer. We would like to especially thank our 2018 Cure Champions: Ameritas, Kimberly Burhoop, The Christensen Charitable Foundation, Horizon Bank, Nebraska Bank of Commerce along with The Lee and Debbie Stuart Family Foundation, and Nelnet for their leadership in the mission to end T1D once and for all. You have given families across Nebraska the tools, hope, and resources they need to make them feel supported and backed by our caring community!
