JDRF Boston Gala: A Record Breaking $2.46 Million Raised for T1D Research

A Record Breaking $2.46 Million Raised for T1D Research!
On Saturday, May 12, more than 700 guests gathered at the Boston Marriott Copley Place for the 36th Annual JDRF Boston Gala — One Night, a special evening celebrating the “Power of Family” and our collective efforts to cure type 1 diabetes (T1D).

Led by our talented emcees, Vanessa Welch and Mark Ockerbloom of Boston 25 News, JDRF New England was privileged to recognize this year’s honorees, Rebecca and Bill Power, and Nancy Jones Diabetes Champion Award recipient, Semma Therapeutics, for their steadfast dedication to being the momentum, the progress, and one day, the cure.

“The Power of Family” | 2018 Gala Honorees: Rebecca and Bill Power
We were thrilled to honor Rebecca and Bill Power as the 36th Annual JDRF Boston Gala Honorees for their commitment, support, and dedication, and their family’s shared pursuit of JDRF’s mission. We hope you to take a few moments to watch the video created to honor Rebecca and Bill.

2018 Fund A Cure Speaker: Rebecca Power
The T1D community is comprised of unique and heartfelt stories of how those living with T1D, and those who support them, surmount challenges every day. Each year, JDRF New England invites one of our own to share their personal story. This year, we could think of no one better to do so than our honoree, Rebecca Power. Rebecca’s words were beautiful, powerful, and inspiring. We encourage you to watch the Fund A Cure video, as well as Rebecca’s inspiring speech, and join the hundreds of people who have already supported this year’s Fund A Cure. If you would like to contribute, please call us at 781-431-0700, give online, or mail a check to JDRF, Attn: Boston Gala, 60 Walnut Street, Wellesley Hills, MA 02481.

2018 Nancy Jones Diabetes Champion Award Recipient: Semma Therapeutics
Semma Therapeutics is pioneering the new treatment paradigm of using cells as medicine. Their new class of regenerative medicine therapies couples its breakthrough stem cell technologies with proprietary delivery systems designed to protect cells from the immune system. Semma Therapeutics is working to bring new therapeutic options to the clinic and improve the lives of patients.

JDRF is proud to support the groundbreaking discoveries by Dr. Doug Melton and his team, and invite you to view the video highlighting their exciting work.

The evening would not have been possible without the incredible support of our JDRF community. We offer a very special thanks to our 2018 One Night Gala Chairs, Elizabeth Marx Wexelblatt and Suzy Doherty, and Gala Vice Chair, Jaleen Siekman, for their vision, dedication, and leadership, as well as the entire Gala Committee for their unwavering efforts to make the evening a success. We are also grateful to Tony Ormonde and Ormonde Productions for bringing our ideas to life and helping to make the night truly exquisite, and Cramer Productions for assisting in the creation and management of the evening’s program. A huge thank you to the talented Brian Smith for producing the beautiful videos showcased throughout the program. Special thanks to Hannoush Jewelers for providing the beautiful diamond earrings and tennis bracelet for our raffle. We would also like to recognize Bénédicte Verley Photography for capturing the memories, Portrait Simple for showcasing the many faces of T1D so exquisitely, and our friends at Boston GIF for providing a fun and exciting way to promote the magic of One Night through social media. Thank You to Our Volunteers!
An evening such as this would not be possible if it were not for the more than 100 volunteers who assisted the JDRF New England staff and Gala Committee leading up to, during, and following the event. We are a volunteer-based organization, and we are truly grateful to everyone who provided assistance, support, energy, and time to ensure this year’s Gala was the most successful to date.
