**URGENT** The fight for the renewal of the Special Diabetes Program

Many of you may have been seeing information coming through e-mail or online about the Special Diabetes Program (SDP) Renewal. We wanted to take the time to explain what the SDP does and why it is so important for us to continue to contact our representatives to ensure that it gets renewed.

The facts of SDP:

  • TheĀ Special Diabetes Program ā€“ SDP ā€“ provides $150 million annually for type 1 diabetes research at the National Institutes of Health. It expired September 30, 2017.
  • In one way shape or form, every technology positively impacting the lives of those individuals living with T1D today has been impacted by this critical program.
  • Itā€™s absolutely crucial that the SDP is reauthorized as soon as possible, so that all the groundbreaking research and clinical trials that the Program is funding can continue without interruption.
  • This federal program is, and has, without question positively impacted the lives of those living with and impacted by type 1 diabetes (T1D).
  • Nearly 2.5 billion in federal funding has gone into type 1 diabetes research since SDP began.
  • For every $1 of public research funding by JDRF, $3 of research funding is provided by SDP.
  • This program has strong bi-partisan support.

You may have received communication stating that the program had been extended, unfortunately, that is not 100% true.Ā  The current continuing resolution (CR) that Congress is moving forward, includes funding for the Childrenā€™s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), but does not include language to reauthorize the SDP.

We need your help to ensure that this critical research continues. Stand with the T1D community ā€“Ā complete this short formĀ to urge Congress to renew the SDP.

If you havenā€™t done so already, pleaseĀ sign up to be a JDRF Advocate. Your voice will help us make a difference in the fight to help turn Type One into Type None.
