Everyday Heroes is a monthly series recognizing individuals, families or businesses that go above and beyond to serve our local T1D community.

MEET SCOTT BENNER
He calls himself a stay-at-home dad, a husband, a storyteller and an author, but this month he’s our JDRF Everyday Hero. Scott Benner’s daughter was diagnosed with T1D when she was two years old. After her diagnosis, Scott created a blog, Arden’s Day, in order to raise awareness about the realities of managing this lifelong illness and raise money for JDRF. Adapting to changing times, his blog grew into a podcast and now through The Juicebox Podcast, Scott interviews celebrities with T1D, executives in the diabetes field, leading scientists, as well as everyday people affected by T1D. He encourages his listeners to be “bold with insulin” and many will tell you he’s taken the fear away for people new to this disease, while also providing some levity and humor to this heavy topic.

By connecting listeners with information, Scott has made a tremendous impact on hundreds of thousands of people all over the world and touched the lives of so many and for that, we thank him.

Given his love for interviews, we switched this one up so our Executive Director Jess Backofen could put Scott in the hot seat for once. Listen to Scott’s story and his inspiration below!
