DRIVEN featuring YLC President, Andrew Mika

In continuation with National Diabetes Awareness Month (NDAM), we are proud to share Driven: Living with Type 1 Diabetes, featuring our very own Drew Mika. Produced by our friends at IVY, the film takes you through Drew’s journey as Executive President of the JDRF Young Leadership Committee NYC, JDRF Congressional Advocate and general member of the T1D community.

Andrew was diagnosed with T1D when he was 10 years old. He was introduced to JDRF through the Government Advocacy program while living in DC. He worked with the YLC there and continued his involvement when he moved back to NYC three years ago. Andrewā€™s been instrumental in bringing the YLC to its current state and has also assisted other chapters to grow their Young Leadership Committees.

Driven: Living with Type 1 Diabetes

The New York City Young Leadership Committee (YLC) is a direct extension of the NYC Chapter of JDRF. The YLC is comprised of ambitious young professionals in the greater NYC region, who share the same purpose in treating, preventing, and ultimately curing T1D. Our approach is simple: Put the ā€œFunā€ back into fundraising, through various events throughout the year where we bring together a bunch of great individuals for exciting and meaningful events. The group meets monthly to plan fundraising events, socialize/network, and provide a network of support for Type I diabetics and their family, co-workers, and friends. Additionally, the group commits to raising $180,000 annually for type 1 diabetes research.
