“Team Lockwood is small, but mighty!
Our company’s involvement with the JDRF Omaha-Council Bluffs Chapter began back in 2002 – the same year Lockwood Development was formed. Chip James, the president of our company, sat on the Board of Directors. He served on the Board for many years and became heavily involved with luncheons, corporate events and the annual walk. At the time, our office was made up of only six people!
As our office grew, so did our team for the JDRF One Walk. Over the years we have recruited family members, friends, clients and pets to join. In 2016, our office of 16 employees raised nearly $20,000. Team Lockwood has been a Top 10 Corporate Team for the past 3 years.
Type 1 Diabetes really impacted our office when an employee’s stepdaughter, Shelby, was diagnosed with T1D in 2011. Since then, Shelby frequents the office and has given everyone a perspective on what living with T1D looks like on a daily basis. She is currently a busy junior to be – an active member of the cheer leading squad and works for Kids Connection but she is never too busy to help out when it is walk time. Shelby assists with the design of the company’s t-shirt for the One Walk. She also plays a large role in fundraising for Team Lockwood.
Lockwood Development goes above and beyond when it comes to preparing and raising money for the JDRF One Walk. We help one another out with friendly reminders, team status update emails and extra assistance when sending out. In the past our office has utilized the day for team building with a day at the lake.
Tips we have on being a successful team:
- Make sure everyone in the office is registered and has sent out their emails. Our office typically sends more of a personalized email explaining our relationship to the walk and why it is important to our office.
- We always send a follow up ‘thank you’ email once someone has donated.
- Our goal this year is to blast our team page on our social media sites in hopes of reaching even more of an audience.
- We like to get the entire office involved when it comes to making a final decision on shirts – we find that it’s fun to get lots of input and suggestions. This year we are planning on an orange shirt, be on the lookout for Team Lockwood!”
