The College Diabetes Network and JDRF Announce National Partnership

BOSTON, MA May 17, 2017: The College Diabetes Network (CDN) and JDRF are pleased to announce their national partnership. This partnership will support CDN’s Off to College Program, and serve to ensure that more high school students and their families have the information and support they need to successfully prepare for and transition into college. These materials are a ‘Gold Standard’ of information and support for young people with type 1 diabetes—helping to simplify, rather than further complicate the transition to college.

CDN’s Off to College Program is the most comprehensive diabetes education program for young people and their families. With 71 percent of students currently reporting difficulty managing diabetes in college, this program provides critical resources at an often tumultuous time. CDN’s Off to College Program offers resources for everyone involved; from printed booklets for students and their families, to informational toolkits for health clinics and diabetes organizations to host Off to College Events. Resources are provided at no cost and can be requested via THIS FORM for both electronic download and hard copy booklets.

JDRF’s Type One Nation Summits across the country will be utilizing CDN resources and several events will be working with CDN Chapters to host Off to College sessions. Additionally, families in contact with their local JDRF Chapters will be able to connect with CDN Chapters to help with the transition to college.

“The transition to college is an exciting but stressful time for young adults with diabetes and their families. These booklets aim to help make that transition easier so that families are more prepared for college,” said Christina Roth, CDN’s CEO and Founder. “With JDRF’s chapters and Type One Nation Summits, more families will have access to these resources.”

“JDRF is thrilled to partner with the College Diabetes Network. Type 1 diabetes is 24/7 with no breaks or holidays,” said Aaron Kowalski, PhD, Chief Mission Officer at JDRF. ”We know college is a stressful time with numerous adjustments and changes in routine, and providing appropriate support and resources is critical. We are grateful for these opportunities to help drive awareness and increase our vision of a world without type 1 diabetes.”

About the Off to College Program
The Off to College Program was launched in 2015 with the “Hosting an Off to College Event: A How-To Guide” for clinics and organizations. The information in this kit was then used to create the Off-to-College booklets for students and parents in July 2016. These important resources exist because of the support of our generous sponsors and partners: Tandem Diabetes Care, Inc., Lilly, the American Diabetes Association, Novo Nordisk, Sanofi, Dexcom and JDRF.
