2017 JDRF One Walks Celebrate another Outstanding Year

Congratulations! Once again, this year’s Denver and Colorado Springs JDRF One Walks were a tremendous success, and are anticipated to raise over $750,000 for type one diabetes research.

On September 10th, approximately 5,000 people gathered at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds for the 27th annual JDRF One Walk in Denver, presented by the Denver Area Mazda Dealers. It was a beautiful (all be it hot) day where walkers were able to celebrate their fundraising success. The morning started with outstanding performances by the Artistic Fusion Dance Academy, fun games provided by Jump Bunch, and tasty snacks like sugar-free Slurpees from 7-11. Walkers were able to show their T1D spirit by dying their hair blue at the Floyd’s 99 Barbershop booth and anyone with type one diabetes was given an exclusive JDRF T1D Buff Headgear bandana to sport for the day. Additional fun was provided by visits from the 501st Legion Storm Troopers, riders on horseback to lead the walk, and Broncos Cheerleaders and Jr. Cheerleaders to cheer on walk participants.

Then, on October 14th, the Colorado Springs community came together for their 17th annual JDRF One Walk. Held at Rock Ledge Ranch, near Garden of the Gods, approximately 2,000 people attended in this backyard-picnic feeling event. Presented by Mazda, walkers enjoyed stunning views on a picture perfect day. Fun lawn games and crafts kept the kids busy while numerous dance studios performed at the main stage and 501st Legion Storm Troopers wandered the site. There were also inspiring moments like the Barbara Ellis Studio of Dance’s choreographed dance about the T1D journey, Tianna Cook’s spoken word poem performed during the opening ceremony and special Mile of Hope signs along the route.

On behalf of the Board of Directors, JDRF Staff, and the individuals and families living with T1D, thank you all for your hard work fundraising and to the volunteers who make this year’s event a success.
