What is JDRF?

The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) was founded in 1970 by the parents of children with Juvenile Diabetes who were convinced that a cure for diabetes could be found through research.  They were and still are determined to make that cure happen in their children's lifetime.

If you or someone you love has recently been diagnosed with Type 1 (Juvenile) diabetes, JDRF can help.

Our Chapter

The Southeastern Wisconsin Chapter of JDRF was founded in 1985 under similar circumstances and out of the realization of a need for local support for those lives touched by the disease.

The Southeastern Wisconsin chapter of JDRF is very active in trying to raise money for a cure for diabetes. We also try to promote understanding of diabetes and its effects on families. We encourage persons with diabetes and their families coming together in support groups.

Supporting JDRF

Why is supporting JDRF so important?  The need for the support of research to uncover the cause for this disease is even greater as the incidence of diabetes continues to increase at a rapid pace.  This is especially true in Southeastern Wisconsin, as Children's Hospital has seen 15-17% increases in newly diagnosed cases of Type I diabetes the past few years, over twice the national average.  The three key target areas of JDRF research are:  restoration of normal blood sugars, prevention and reversal of complications, and prevention of Type I diabetes.  This third area is a key body of research that will someday unlock the genetic puzzle to the trigger of this disease and lead to its prevention.  The Southeastern Wisconsin chapter of JDRF is dedicated to raising the funds locally to help provide funding for our research goals.

With your help, we are moving research from the laboratory bench to the patient's bedside, translating scientific advances into longer, healthier lives for those with diabetes. With your help, we are moving closer to our goal ... a cure for diabetes and its complications.
