Communitas Mind-body Groups for Youth Living with Chronic Illness
September 5, 2018, San Francisco, CA
Communitas is enrolling for the next series of mind-body and resilience group medical visits starting in mid-September. Communitas program is... • Group for youth living with chronic physical illness and their parents/guardians. • Provides mind-body/self-care skills for stress and symptom reduction and peer support. • Held at UCSF Osher Center for Integrative Medicine + separate, simultaneous group for parents/guardians
• 14-21 year olds: Wednesdays 3:45-5:15PM (8 sessions)
• 9-13 year olds: Tuesdays 3:45-5:15 (8 sessions)
• Referrals: Place an outpatient referral to Osher Center in Apex and note Communitas. Patients may also call Rachel at Osher (415-353-7716) to schedule an appt (best if referral already placed).
• Insurance: Most qualify, including Medi-cal. We also have scholarship funds to enroll lower income patients whose insurance doesn’t qualify. Families should call 415-353-7716 to look into this option if interested.
Program evaluation suggests that Communitas participation is related to positive changes in physical and mental wellbeing, resilience, mood, and stress in teens living with chronic illness.
