Mary Kaye and Elizabeth “Liddy” Huntsman create the JDRF Bag of Hope® for children who have been recently diagnosed with type 1 diabetes (T1D)—and their caregivers. It includes resources and educational materials to help make the adjustment to living with T1D easier to navigate. The Bag of Hope includes Rufus, the Bear with Diabetes®. Rufus helps children understand that they are not alone and helps them learn how to take shots and test blood sugar.
