T1D Virtual Connections & Education

In an effort to stay connected as a community, JDRF Capital Chapter is excited to offer virtual meet ups and educational events to support our local T1D community. We will offer T1D support and networking programs for newly diagnosed families and individuals, parents of children with T1D, and adults with T1D, as well educational sessions on research, advocacy, virtual fundraising, and more. Please bookmark this page and check back frequently as new events will be added weekly.

Upcoming Events:

  • T1D Families Virtual Meet Ups: Thursdays at 3:00 PM
Newly diagnosed or looking for support from other parents? Join your T1D community for a virtual meet up to connect with other T1D families and get advice and tips from experienced T1D parents. This casual meeting, led by JDRF outreach volunteers, will not offer medical advice but will offer laughter, ideas, and connection!

  • T1D Moms Meet Up with Stacey Simms: Wednesday, May 27 at 7:00 PM
If you are a T1D mom looking for a fun evening with other moms just like you? Join Stacey Simms, host of Diabetes Connections podcast, and friends from across our region as they share their “Worst Diabetes Mom” stories. We hope by sharing these T1D mistakes we will be able to ease the fears of new families and empowering our T1D community to support each other through the highs and lows! (Hosted by the JDRF Greater Western Carolinas chapter.)

  • Bethesda Type 1 Diabetes Peer Support Group: Wednesday, May 27 at 7:30 PM
Are you living with T1D or parenting a child with T1D? Join us for an informal conversation to share information and connect with others in the T1D community. Bring questions or topics you would like to discuss. This group typically meets monthly at Suburban Hospital but due to COVID-19 we are transitioning to a virtual meeting this month.

  • Sports & Activity with T1D: Thursday, May 28 at 1:00 PM
Join Dr. Brad Thrasher and CDE Eric Davenport of the Christensen Family Sports and Activity Program at the Wendy Novak Diabetes Center for a T1D Champion Chat you don’t want to miss. We’ll be discussing sports and activity with T1D. You’ll hear about Eric’s experience hiking to the base of Mt. Everest, and learn that with planning and preparation, diabetes will not stop anyone from reaching their goals and dreams! (Hosted by the JDRF Middle and East Tennessee chapter.)

    • More information and registration here.
  • Diabetes Technology 101 Webinar: Tuesday, June 2 at 7:00 PM
Join JDRF and Dr. Brynn Marks (Children’s National) for an overview of type 1 diabetes management technologies. Representatives from Tandem and Insulet (Omnipod) will also be on hand to discuss their technology options.
