Congratulations to Sophie Waldman of the JDRF Eastern PA family!

Sophie graduated last Friday from Abington Friends School, a small Quaker school in Jenkintown. During her high school career, Sophie threw javelin as part of track and field; lead the Jewish Affinity and Young Conservatives clubs; co-edited the yearbook; and ran her own business outside of schoolā€”Gear 2 The Maxxā€”where she designs, creates, and sells custom college/team clothing.

Her summer plans include running Gear 2 The Maxx, lending a hand to JDRF wherever needed, and spending time with friends and family ā€œdown the shore.ā€ This fall, Sophie will attend Syracuse University in Syracuse, NY, studying marketing at its business school.

Diagnosed at age 9, Sophie offers this advice for teens dealing with type 1 diabetes: ā€œKnow there are other children battling with this disease as well. Make friends and use your support because we are all in this together, and you are not alone! Do not let one number define you. Nothing will stop you from achieving your goals!ā€

Thank you, Sophie, for being such an amazing JDRF supporter. We are so proud of you!
