Daniel Fine to receive JDRF Living and Giving Award

in ,

The Eastern PA Chapter of JDRF is pleased to announce that Daniel Fine will receive the JDRF Living and Giving Award at its annual One Promise Gala on Saturday, April 13, 2019 at the Loews Philadelphia Hotel. This extraordinary event—themed “Enchanted Night: Reach the Unreachable”—is led by Gala Chair Lynn Testaiuti, who is dedicated to the cause of finding a cure for type 1 diabetes (T1D).

When Daniel was 11 years old, his brother Jake—then age 7—was diagnosed with T1D. From the moment of Jake’s diagnosis, Daniel led the charge as Jake’s older brother to both protect him and fundraise relentlessly in his honor—hence their organization’s name, Team Brotherly Love.

The first priority for Daniel and his parents was to maintain Jake’s normalcy. Then they went into action, co-founding Brotherly Love with the goal of “Saving Lives and Finding a Cure.” The brothers started and never stopped hustling, recruiting friends, designing apparel, and raising one dollar at a time. What started as a team of two brothers grew to span multiple continents, engage and inspire hundreds of kids, and raise over $2 million!

Daniel is also the founder and CEO of NEU Brands and a 2015 graduate of Penn’s Wharton School. NEU is building the future of retail at the intersection of content and commerce. Its brands include GlassU, ChickaD, and Woolly Threads, and its clients range from the NCAA to the FIFA World Cup to Uber to Fortnite.

At just 25 years old, Daniel has been recognized for his efforts as a member of the “Forbes 30 under 30” and TIME Magazine‘s “TOMORROW 25”. He has received service awards from Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama and has been featured in The New York Times, Bloomberg, Elite Daily, HuffPost and more.

Daniel has traveled the world representing the U.S. and U.N. in places ranging from Moscow, Russia to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Additionally, he was recruited to swim at Penn and was a U.S. Junior Olympic, Grand Prix, and Junior National swimmer and tri-athlete and multi-time All-American.

About the 2019 JDRF One Promise Gala

The 2019 One Promise Gala will be attended by over 500 business, civic and cultural leaders in the Philadelphia community who, like Daniel, are dedicated to helping JDRF reach our shared mission of turning Type One into Type None.

JDRF’s ability to expedite and sustain meaningful research progress is made possible by tens of thousands of volunteers and donors worldwide who are mobilized through targeted initiatives such as the JDRF Gala Program and signature “Fund a Cure” initiative.

Fund a Cure is the cornerstone of the Gala Program, and by making a Fund a Cure gift, you can be assured knowing that 100 percent of your donations go toward the JDRF mission (and are fully tax deductible). Fund a Cure provides JDRF with the dollars needed to move game-changing therapies out of the lab and into the waiting hands of the T1D community.
