2021 Community Volunteer Award Recipients

We are proud to recognize the recipients of the 2021 JDRF Georgia & South Carolina Community Volunteer Award. The award is in recognition of volunteers whose contributions of time and talent have significantly impacted their local community and advanced JDRF’s mission. We can’t think of two people more deserving of this honor than Beth McCrary and Sunnie Devidas.

Beth and Sunnie are both T1D parents, and have been involved with JDRF for over 10 years. From Walk, to Ride, to Gala, to supporting newly diagnosed families – we can’t think of one area of JDRF where they have not made an impact. They are the type of volunteers you can rely on to get the job done and do it well. We cannot thank them enough for their relentless passion and dedication! See below to learn a little more about Beth and Sunnie in their own words.

Beth McCrary – South Carolina: “For the past 13 years, I have chosen to give of my time, talents and treasures to JDRF because I believe in the work we are doing. I have seen firsthand the many advancements in cure, treatment and prevention therapies, and my daughter is thriving today despite living with a chronic, autoimmune disorder. The HOPE I have in th work JDRF is doing replaces the feelings of helplessness that sometimes creep in when type 1 doesn’t play nice.”

Sunnie Devidas – Georgia: “Having dealt with Type 1 Diabetes up close with my T1D son, I want to do everything in my power to help those who live with it. Whether it is fundraising (or helping with fundraising), outreach, advocacy or public awareness, there is so much that needs to be done. I volunteer at JDRF because every one of us touched by T1D can find a role to play in ending it. And volunteering is fun!”
