HELP ONE WALK HIT ONE MILLION DOLLARS!
We are $15,000 away from hitting $1 MILLION for the GDV JDRF One Walk program.
This is BIG and you can help drive us over the finish line!
We’re on the brink of reaching a major milestone that will help fund research advancements, like a potential vaccine to prevent T1D (more info below). We know that together, we’ll surpass this goal for the million Americans living with this disease.
How can you help?
- Donate to a team, individual or make general event gift at One Walk Philadelphia, South Jersey, Wilmington, Bucks County or Lehigh Valley
- Donations will count towards the next prize level until January 17!
- Tell your friends, family, and coworkers
- Check to see if your gift will be matched by your company, and email email@example.com to let us know you’ve applied
What about a vaccine to prevent T1D?
“Wouldn’t it be nice if you could take a vaccine in infancy, and type 1 diabetes (T1D) would not develop? Preclinical research suggests it might not be that far away.
The viral hypothesis posits that a viral infection may be partly responsible for T1D. The main culprit appears to be coxsackievirus B (CVB)—a common pathogen where, in most circumstances, the infection is asymptomatic or results in mild symptoms. There are no available vaccines that target CVBs. Furthermore, there are six types of CVBs, and different CVB infections cause different diseases. What if you could vaccinate against several CVB types with one vaccine? We could potentially prevent multiple diseases, like meningitis, heart inflammation and hand, foot and mouth disease”
Thank you for all of the amazing support of this program so far in what is a unique and challenging year. We’re so excited to see the impact!
