Who:   We expect approximately 6,000 walkers

Handicap and VIP Walkers– Varied Industries LotEnter through Gate 10 (see Map)

8:00 a.m.   Registration Opens
9:30 a.m.  Ribbon Cutting Ceremony – West end of Grand Ave. Concourse
9:45 a.m.   Walk Begins – West end of Grand Ave. Concourse
The Walk begins and ends on the Grand Ave. Concourse, wrapping around the Grandstand and finishing through the Midway. Route is approximately one mile.

Check-in:  ALL WALKERS will be required to check-in on Walk Day. This process will provide each walker with a refreshment-access wristband, as well as t-shirt tickets for those who qualify.

Pre-registration:  The deadline for pre-registration is noon on Friday, May 9th. Walkers who do not pre-register through walk.jdrf.org by this deadline, will each be required to fill out a registration form on Walk Day. By pre-registering, the check-in process will go quicker and keep lines to a minimum.

Walk t-shirt eligibility:  All walkers who raise $100 or more will receive a 2014 JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes t-shirt! Only fundraising dollars received by noon on Friday, May 9 will be reflected on t-shirt eligibility lists located at Check-in. However, money turned in on Walk day will count towards the $100 requirement. Fundraising dollars may be mailed to the Greater Iowa office or dropped off any time before Walk day. Office hours are M-F, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. If you need to drop off money outside of those times, please call the office to make arrangements.

Awards/Recognition:  Based on the level of fundraising, teams and individuals may be eligible to receive prizes and awards! Please visit this site to enter your preferences for receiving these incentives. In order to reduce unnecessary costs, we will only order awards and incentive prizes for those teams and individuals that choose to receive one. The deadline to turn in all donations and to opt-in for incentives is May 30th.

Parking:  All Walkers are asked to use the North Parking Lot. Please enter through Gate 2 on the corner of E. University Ave and E. 33rd Street). Volunteers with golf carts will be available in the North Parking lot to escort walkers requiring extra assistance. Parking is free! There will be no vehicle access to the Grand Concourse. Handicap parking will be available through Gate 10 located off E. 30th Street.

Entrance: After parking in the North lot, Walkers are asked to enter the fairgrounds through the Midway.

Team Photos:  Team photo time slots are available from 8:00-11:30 a.m. If you do not register for a team photo time, you can get your photo taken on a first come, first serve basis. Teams of 25+ members are highly encouraged to sign up for a team photo time to avoid creating long wait times for other teams. Team Meeting Spots: As your family, friends and coworkers join you on Walk day, feel free to grab a meeting spot on the far east side of the Midway. Teams are encouraged to bring pop up tents, camping chairs and blankets. Feel free to bring signs, balloons or other creative items to mark your team area. Please be sure to clean up your area after the event so we can leave the Fairgrounds clean and trash-free!

William C. Knapp Team T-Shirt Contest: Don’t be afraid to get creative and think outside the box with your team t-shirt. They can be submitted for a chance to be named the 2014 William C. Knapp Walk to Cure Diabetes Team T-shirt winner! Courtesy of Knapp Properties, the winning team will have $5,000 from Knapp Properties added to the team’s fundraising total. To qualify, shirts must include the JDRF logo and the current year. Corporate teams must include the company name and/or logo. Family teams must display the team name. To be eligible, one t-shirt must be delivered or mailed to the JDRF office by May 2.

VIP Lounge: Back by popular demand, the VIP Lounge experience will be offered to family team captains whose teams raise at least $5,000 and corporate team captains whose teams raise at least $10,000 by May 2. Qualifying teams will be treated to an exclusive VIP experience including specialty refreshments, entertainment and accommodations. More details to come!
