July Cure Champion
Type 1 diabetes (T1D) hits close to home for my family as our son Zach, 23, was diagnosed at just ten months old and our daughter Ava, 19, was diagnosed at 12 years old. As you can imagine, my wife and I were devastated. There is nothing more heartbreaking than to have your two-year-old ask āDaddy, please take my diabetes away.ā Zach and Ava both check their blood sugar 10-12 times a day, that is 10-12 pricks on their fingersāÆeveryāÆday.āÆThey are both on insulin pumps and Ava is also on the continuous glucose monitor. My children are amazing managers of their diabetes, and both are doing well thanks to the research and technology funded by JDRF.āÆĀ
