JDRF Staten Island Gala Honorees

On Thursday, May 23, 2019, JDRF is honored to celebrate the impact Kristin Dalton and Brian Laline of the Staten Island Advance have on the T1D community on Staten Island. Join the evening at the Nigh Under the Tuscan Moon Staten Island Gala for a night of dinner, dance and celebration at 7:00pm at Angelina’s.

Honorees:

Brian Laline, Executive Editor of the Staten Island Advance/SILive

Brian J. Laline is executive editor of the Staten Island Advance/SILive, a local Newhouse daily newspaper and website in the southernmost borough of New York. He received a bachelor of arts degree in English from LaSalle University in Philadelphia, and a masterā€™s degree in English with a concentration in secondary education from Wagner College on Staten Island.Ā  Laline briefly taught 10th-grade English in Philadelphiaā€™s Frankford High SchoolĀ  before returning to his hometown of Staten Island and beginning a 47-year journalism career.Ā  He began as a local news reporter, became a copy editor not long after, was city editor and associate editor before being named editor in 1992. He was named executive editor in 2015.Ā  Laline is deeply involved in not-for-profit and cultural institutions on Staten Island.Ā  He is chair of the board of directors of the St. George Theatre; secretary of the board of Snug Harbor Cultural Center and Botanical Garden, Staten Islandā€™s premiere cultural institution.Ā  He serves on the board of the College of Staten Island Foundation, is a member of the board of the Museum of Maritime Navigation, and had served on numerous other boards over the years such as Meals on Wheels, the YMCA, and was vice president of the Staten Island Chapter, Boy Scouts of America.Ā  He is married, the father of three and grandfather of four granddaughters.

Kristin Dalton, Reporter at the Staten Island Advance

Native Staten Islander Kristin Dalton, 30, has had a love of journalism her whole life. After covering several different topics, sheā€™s found her niche in public interest reporting and loves telling the stories of her community. She has been a reporter at the Staten Island Advance since 2014 and thanks Executive Editor Brian Laline and her editor, Thomas Checchi, for their leadership and providing her with the resources to tell those important stories.
