A letter from our Executive Director

in ,

Dear Friends of JDRF:

As our world grapples with coronavirus, and all New Yorkers shelter-at-home, we at the New York City/Long Island Chapter of JDRF remain focused on the well-being of our T1D community.  We hope that you and your families remain healthy and in good spirits considering these extraordinary circumstances.

You should have received an email from Dr. Aaron Kowalski, JDRF’s President & CEO, announcing the tough decision to postpone or re-image all JDRF events through June 30th in an effort to keep everyone safe and healthy.  We are actively working out what that means for our community and chapter and will provide frequent updates.

Our chapter staff are currently hard at work, from their homes, and we are actively working on ways to 1. provide relevant content 2. connect as a community in new ways 3. provide outreach services in new ways and 4. to continue our advocacy and fundraising efforts to keep our critical mission moving forward.  We are getting creative as we re-imagine our chapters events and how to stay together as a community through this time.  We know many of you have questions about Covid-19 and T1D, insurance, supply chains, etc.; JDRF is working to address your questions and concerns.  Please continue to refer to JDRF’s recommendations and information regarding T1D and Covid-19 at JDRF.org/coronavirus and JDRF.org/blog.  Also, please follow us on social media.  We will be constantly updating our channels with information and opportunities to connect and gather with the T1D community.  Check out our Facebook and Instagram here.

Through these challenging times, we remain grateful for the commitment and care of our New York City/Long Island network.  We are wishing that you remain healthy and are in a safe place with your loved ones close by, in person, or on video calls.   Of course, as always, please reach out to me or any member of our staff team with questions, concerns or ideas.  Now, more than ever, we recognize the power of community as we envision a world without T1D.

All the best!
