We are thrilled to introduce Dr. Carol Levy and Dr. Joshua Miller, who are leading the way in improving diabetes care. Dr. Levy and Dr. Miller will be explaining hypoglycemia unawareness, who it impacts, and the tools available to help with management and treatment.

Dr. Carol Levy

Dr. Carol Levy is a Professor in the Departments of Medicine, Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Bone Disease and Obstetrics and Gynecology. As the Director of the Mount Sinai Diabetes Center and Type 1 Diabetes Clinical Research, she is known as a clinical expert in type 1 diabetes and leads a clinical team of physicians, nurse practitioners and diabetes educators. She mentors and trains numerous faculty and fellows. Her clinical and research interests include technology use for diabetes management and the care of women with diabetes during pregnancy. She leads her research team evaluating many artificial pancreas and glucose sensor studies including an NIH funded project evaluating a customized closed loop system specifically designed for pregnancy. Her goal in both clinical care and in research is to improve the lives of people with diabetes.

Joshua D. Miller, MD, MPH

Dr. Joshua Miller is the Assistant Dean for Clinical Integration and Medical Director of Diabetes Care for Stony Brook Medicine and an Associate Professor of Endocrinology & Metabolism at Stony Brook University on Long Island. He received his undergraduate, graduate and medical education at the University of Rochester, completed Internship and Residency in Internal Medicine at Mount Sinai Medical Center and Fellowship in Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism at Columbia University where he was the Swanson Fellow in Diabetes. In leading Stony Brook’s efforts in diabetes care, Dr. Miller transformed the health system’s program to align with national best practices; he has been the recipient of numerous regional and national awards recognizing the impact of his efforts on Long Islanders living with diabetes. Dr. Miller’s work in population health has positioned Stony Brook Medicine as one of the top performing Accountable Care Organizations in the country and a leader in value-based care in the tri-state area. In addition to practicing diabetology, Dr. Miller has been living with type 1 diabetes for over 22 years and is dedicated to improving quality of life for people living with diabetes and their loved ones.
