JDRF Greater Western Carolinas would like to highlight our Superhero Supporter for the month of April, LabCorp. LabCorp is a Charlotte and North Charlotte 2019 Walk sponsor and has given great support to JDRF this year. Shown above are members of the LabCorp Walk team at their kickoff meeting held in the LabCorp office. We wanted to find out a little more from the LabCorp team about why they have chosen to be a sponsor and get more involved with JDRF this year.
We interviewed their Project Analyst and Charlotte Walk Team Captain, Pat Niski, to find out some of these answers. Get to know Pat below:
What is your T1D connection?
My T1D connection is my late mentor and friend whose daughter has type 1 diabetes. There are various co-workers in the LabCorp family who have connections with T1D as well.
How long have you been involved with JDRF?
This was my first year involved with JDRF in North Carolina and I believe the first year that LabCorp has participated as a sponsor of the Charlotte One Walk at Carowinds.
Why (and how) do you personally support JDRF?
I supported JDRF this year in honor of my friend’s daughter by engaging other co-workers at LabCorp to join the LabCorp Charlotte Walk team as well a walking in the event, raising donations and increasing awareness. Our kick-off meeting for the JDRF Walk was truly appreciated by the employees who participated and we all learned something new about type 1 diabetes!
What inspires you about JDRF’s work?
All of the educational information and support JDRF provides those affected by this disease is truly inspiring and I loved getting a call from a child affected by T1D thanking our team for our help this year, she was amazing!
What message would you give to others who are thinking about supporting JDRF’s mission?
I have to say that the support we received to be successful our first year as a Walk team and sponsor was great – I don’t think there is anything more rewarding than being able to give back to those in our community affected by T1D. We also had such a great time at the event, we’re looking forward to future walks and helping to find a cure!
Thank you so very much to the LabCorp team and Pat Niski! We are so glad we are able to provide opportunities for companies to get more involved with our T1D Community and are so glad to have LabCorp as a sponsor.
