Advocacy Update: Special Diabetes Program

The Special Diabetes Program (SDP) funding renewal has passed the House! It was part of the Championing Healthy Kids Act (HR 3922) and passed the full House Friday Nov. 3, 2017. The bill calls for the funding to be renewed for two years at $150 million per year for Type 1 research.

Thanks to all who contacted their Representatives but we are not done.

The issue will now go to the Senate for a vote. We hope that vote will take place soon. If you are signed up as an advocate, you should have received an Action Alert Friday about contacting your Senators. I personally was stuck in traffic trying to get home from the Astros parade when I got it, so if you donā€™t recall it, check Fridayā€™s email.

If you canā€™t find anything, please sign up as an advocate. Go to JDRF.org and click on Get Involved. You will be guided through the steps to becoming an advocate.

It is important you respond quickly to Action Alerts sent by JDRF or me. This vote in the Senate will probably happen quickly and we need to make sure our Senators know how important this issue is to us.

Please stop by the Advocacy Table at the JDRF Woodlands Walk and see who is behind all the emails you have been getting. I will be there. I will be happy to answer any questions and can talk politics all day long.

If you want me to email you the action alert, just let me know.
