Advocacy Update: SDP Short-Term Approval and ACTION ALERT

Special Diabetes Program(SDP) Update

Good news and could be better news but not bad news regarding the SDP.

On Dec. 21, 2017, Congress approved short-term funding of $37.5 million for the Special Diabetes Program (SDP) as part of a bill to fund key Federal Government programs through January 19, 2018. This money will enable the National Institute of Health to begin its process to fund the next round of promising research.

We are incredibly grateful for this funding.

However, the SDP has not been fully funded since the program was not renewed at the end of September. Other programs are in the same boat.

We are still in need of a full, two ā€“ year renewal of the SDP at $150 million per year, and this needs to be done by February 6. A full renewal of the SDP is an urgent priority, and we will continue to fight until the job is done. If you are not receiving Action Alert emails regarding the SDP, please go to JDRF.org/SDPnow to sign up as an advocate and send a letter to Congress TODAY.
