Spotlight on Promise Ball Chairs: Charity and John Todd

This month’s spotlight is a special one because it highlights our Promise Ball Chairs, Charity and John Todd.

When Charity and John’s oldest daughter, Madeline, was diagnosed with T1D six years ago at the age of five, it took JDRF just one week to reach out to the family. The Todds’ neighbor, Linda Brown, was instrumental in getting the family involved with JDRF.  Charity and John were able to use JDRF as a resource of people to lean on and learn from. The community made dealing with T1D not as scary as it originally seemed. Madeline was able to meet other kids her age with T1D with whom she could identify.

Charity and John have been involved with JDRF in various ways throughout the years. John served as one of our “Rat Pack” honorees at the 2015 Promise Ball. Charity has served as the JDRF Auction Committee Chair in 2014, 2015, 2016, and 2017.The Todd Family has also been big supporters of the JDRF One Walk. The first year of participating in Walk, their team was one of the top family teams, raising more than $27,000 toward the cause. Additionally, Madeline was Grand Marshall of the JDRF One Walk in 2013 and is captain of the family’s walk team, “Madeline’s Mob.”

Charity and John spend most of their time with their three children, Madeline, Elijah and Lily Kate, participating in a multitude of little league sports. The Todds are members of the Chapelwood United Methodist Church and reside in Sandalwood, the heart of the Memorial area.

Charity and John have been working very hard this past year to bring you an unforgettable evening in less than 2 weeks. If you haven’t already purchased your tickets, there’s still time. Join us at the Marriott Marquis on April 21st as we step Through the Looking Glass and turn Type One into Type None.
