Won’t you ride with us? We are putting together a Houston Ride Team for the 20th Anniversary JDRF Ride to Cure Diabetes in Amelia Island, Florida, October 4-7. In support of this incredible milestone, we are recruiting at least 20 riders for this weekend celebration and one-day ride.
Don’t ride long distances? Don’t worry. Cyclists of all levels come together for a fantastic few days — and this amazing cause. You choose your pace and how far you ride –25, 50, 75 or up to 100 miles.
Why join the Houston JDRF ride team?
Stunning location — Located in Northeast Florida, Amelia Island is an island oasis just 35 miles from Jacksonville. The ride features the best of the coastal South with scenic flat roads, Spanish Moss and ocean views.
Fabulous friendships – Meet and form friendships with riders and families from all over the world – and there will be a nucleus of riders from Houston! This is also a wonderful opportunity for teens, looking for an event outside of the One Walk, to participate in.
Great Cause – Since 1998 the Ride to Cure diabetes has helped raise more than $20 million for type 1 Diabetes Research.
How it works — Register for the JDRF Ride to Cure Diabetes at ride.jdrf.org. Choose your fundraising level, which ranges from $2,000 to $5,000. Benefits offered to the rider, increase with each fundraising tier. However, all fundraising packages include several meals, an opening night reception, pre and post ride celebrations, rider jersey, and a finisher medal and t-shirt. Arrival is Thursday, October 4 (you can fly or drive – it’s about a 12 hour drive). Friday morning entails a course overview, safety clinic and tune-up ride. The remainder of the afternoon is open for you to explore this gorgeous town, and the evening concludes with a pre-ride celebration and dinner. Saturday is ride day, with a finish line party and celebratory dinner. The event concludes on Sunday, with departure home immediately following breakfast.
