JDRF recognized Illinois Chapter Board Member and volunteer, Anne Pillion, as the recipient of the Community Volunteer Award during National Volunteer Week.

The Community Volunteer Award recognizes volunteers whose contributions of time and talent have significantly impacted their local community and advanced JDRF’s mission to cure, prevent and treat type 1 diabetes (T1D) and its complications.

“As an organization rooted in the power of volunteers, we are excited to celebrate the amazing individuals who help drive our organization forward,” said Craig Robertson, JDRF Vice President, Field Development.

Anne Pillion is a long time Glenview resident. Her and her husband, Bob, have three children and their son, Jack, lives with T1D. When Jack was diagnosed with this life-altering disease, the family immediately became involved with JDRF. Bob, Global Client Service Partner at Ernst & Young, joined the JDRF Illinois board and the rest is history.

Anne has been a volunteer for JDRF Illinois in many ways, starting with her family’s participation at the annual JDRF One Walk and going on to volunteer at various events including the JDRF Ride to Cure Diabetes. Pillion also served as the Auction Co-Chair for the annual JDRF One Dream Gala helping to cultivate a robust auction of over 400 packages that raised over $500,000. Pillion didn’t stop there, volunteering as a JDRF Illinois Board Member.

Anne has also hosted home pop-up shops for local residents that benefits two-fold: supporting local Glenview businesses with a portion of sales donated to JDRF. This community outreach touches many lives and makes a big impact.

“I volunteer at JDRF because I want my son to know that his world is a better place because of all that JDRF is doing to help people living with T1D. I will continue to help JDRF in whatever way I can as we all work towards a world without T1D,” expressed Anne Pillion.

JDRF, the leading global funder of T1D research, recognizes and appreciates all of the dedicated volunteers and supporters who commit their lives to the worldwide effort to end T1D. Volunteer award recipients were recognized at JDRF’s virtual Spring TypeOneNation Summit and will be honored at the JDRF Illinois Annual Meeting in June.
