I hope that
those of us that were on the east cost managed to stay dry from Hurricane
Irene!

While the hurricane
raged on the eastern seaboard, the 2012
Promise Campaign coordinators were diligently at work trying to achieve our
goal of 100 meetings with Member of Congress before the end of August. While I was
thinking about writing this post, another meeting was added to the count and we’re
officially at 101… who knows, by the time you read this we may have surpassed
that count too!

The reason
hitting (or passing) 100 is such a big deal for us is because in the Promise Campaign’s 12 year history,
never have we ever been able to accomplish such a thing. This feat is truly due
to the great work by you as a JDRF advocate. And, of course, our Campaign Coordinators,
who work tirelessly as you do to find a cure by making sure Members of Congress
hear from us about how type 1 diabetes impacts our daily lives. Although we’re
over 100 meetings, it doesn’t mean we let up now… this is the time to carry
this momentum forward and get us to our goal of 432 meetings by end of the Campaign
in May 2012.

You can
help by signing up to attend
or coordinate a meeting of your own! Our motto for the 2012 Promise
Campaign is ‘We need you for 432!’,
and certainly getting over 100 we needed you and we’re definitely going to need
you to get to 432 in the coming months. So if you have contacts into
congressional offices or know how to get a meeting with your legislators,
please let us know by emailing advocacy@jdrf.org!
We’ll make sure we get you the support and information you need so you can be
part of the successes that are surely to come!
