Ways to Give

Fund A Cure

Fund A Cure immediately follows the Live Auction portion of the evening. Fund A Cure is an opportunity to make an impact on the lives of people living with T1D and their loved ones through a 100% tax-deductible donation, which will accelerate life-changing research. Fund A Cure donations will be invested in JDRF’s effective and focused research agenda aimed to progressively remove the impact of T1D from people’s lives until there is a cure.

Type 1 diabetes (T1D) entered our lives on April 25, 2013. We had recently returned from spring break with our youngest son, Jordan. He had been exhibiting some of the usual warning signs, however, I had hoped these symptoms could be attributed to time spent in the Florida heat. When I saw that he had lost 20 pounds I couldn’t put it off any longer. I called our pediatrician’s office and explained Jordan’s symptoms. They had me bring Jordan in that morning. After numerous blood sugar and various testing, my worst suspicions were confirmed. Jordan was diagnosed with type one. We were immediately sent to the pediatric endocrinologist and spent the rest of the day learning about carbs and insulin, A1C, blood glucose levels and how to manage T1D.

Our involvement with JDRF, the world’s leading funder of research to prevent, treat and cure type one diabetes, began soon thereafter. JDRF has remained for us a constant source of knowledge and support; and aims to help the entire type 1 community live happier and healthier lives until a cure is found.

The role JDRF has played in our lives has made us confident that Jordan will not be limited by T1D. Jordan recently graduated from Full Sail University in Orlando and is excitedly entering the job market. But as parents to a child with type one, we also know firsthand of the challenges associated with a disease that allows for no days off, and for which there is currently no cure.

Joining JDRF in the commitment to find a cure for type one and fund valuable research, we are honored to accept the role of Honorees for the 2020 JDRF Promise Gala. Funds raised at the Promise Gala here in Grand Rapids and around the world directly support T1D research, making a difference for the millions of people impacted by this disease. Our goal as Honorees is to help JDRF raise as much as possible this evening and we hope that you will join our family in this endeavor.
