2015 TypeOneNation Summit

850 people, 150 kids and teens, and major reports on T1D research!

The fifth annual TypeOneNation Summit was held Saturday, March 7th and hosted the largest attendance to date. New this year to the Summit, were two pre-program workshops including, “Taking T1D to School,” and “Managing T1D During Sports and Exercise,” led by Gary Scheiner, MS, CDE.

John Brady, JDRF’s International Chairman of the Board, was the summit’s Keynote speaker outlining JDRF’s mission and research priorities. Three research presentations were given on
ultra-rapid acting insulin, encapsulated beta cells, and the artificial pancreas.

The Youth Program and Teen Track had over 150 kids and teens participate!

The Youth participants had a fJenn Youth Programull day of activities including playing games with comedian Mike Black, meeting Miss Maryland, Jordan Walker, and creating art projects with a local Girl Scout troop.

The Teen participants competed in a JDRF Project Runway Challenge where the winners’ creation was presented on our main program’s social media wall! Teens also created a video geared to helping newly diagnosed T1D teens. Young adult volunteers facilitated a discussion about going off to college and the unique challenges having T1D brings.
