We Can’t Stop… And We Won’t Stop

COVID-19 is affecting us all, here is how the JDRF Capital Chapter is adjusting

In early March, JDRF announced that all upcoming in-person events will now be held virtually to help slow the spread of COVID-19. This is a shocking change as JDRF events are those held near to many hearts.

As we adapt to unforeseen times, we find our silver linings. We have been granted an opportunity at innovation, because T1D wonā€™t stop and the JDRF community is unrelenting.

Our first event to be shifted to an online experience is the JDRF One Walk program. The Northern Virginia and Washington DC walks will be combined into one event, the Capital Chapter Virtual One Walk. It will be held on Sunday, May 31, 2020 via the JDRF Capital Chapter Facebook page. We will also have fun virtual activities and contests leading up to Walk day.Ā  Please note that you do not need a Facebook account to participate; contact Walk manager Jenny Holmgrain at jholmgrain@jdrf.org for details.

How will a virtual One Walk work? Our Capital Chapter website, emails, and social media platforms all feature JDRF Virtual One Walk information, tips, and FAQs. Additionally, mark your calendars for our first ever Virtual One Walk Kick Off on May 5, 2020 at 4pm via Zoom. Attending the Virtual One Walk Kick Off allows participants a fun afternoon of ā€œsocial distancingā€ fundraising tips, participant information, and engagement ideas, as well as providing a clear image of what the Virtual One Walk will look like.

“Even though we can’t be together in person, we can still come together as a community to walk and raise funds for critically needed research. The Capital Chapter staff looks forward to still walking together to Turn Type One Into Type None.”

Jenny Holmgrain, JDRF Capital Chapter Walk Manager

The COVID-19 pandemic has forced a shift in us all, but that doesnā€™t mean we have to slow down. One thing guaranteed to remain the same is that Walk day will be a day full of smiles, inspiration, and hope because the JDRF community is bonded by a mission to support the lives of those impacted by T1D.
