JDRF Mid-Atlantic is excited to announce that the 34th annual JDRF Real Estate Games will take place on June 1, 2023 at American University in Washington, DC. The 2022 event attracted 96 teams represented by staff from the region’s leading commercial real estate businesses seeking to compete in friendly sporting events to help raise money for JDRF, the leading global type 1 diabetes (T1D) research and advocacy organization. The event raised $613,000 to support JDRF.

The Honorary Chair of this year’s Mid-Atlantic JDRF Real Estate Games is Paul Schulman, Principal & Chief Operating Officer of American Real Estate Partners (AREP). He is joined by event Co-Chairs Brian Alvarez of MOI, Robin McConnell of AREP, and Samantha Suehiro of Chicago Title Insurance Company.

The JDRF Real Estate Games is an annual event sponsored by the DC area commercial real estate community to benefit the Mid-Atlantic Chapter. The Games were founded by Adam Singer, Vice Chairman of Savills and Director Emeritus of the JDRF International Board, in 1990 and have become one of the top industry events of the year. The Real Estate Games grew to include JDRFā€™s New York City and Chicago chapters in 2017 and has plans to expand to Nashville and Detroit in 2024. Over the past 33 years, the commercial real estate industry has joined together to raise $13 million in funds for life-changing T1D research.

“AREP has a long-standing commitment to community service and the JDRF Real Estate Games continues to be a signature part of our CSR programming,” said Schulman. “The games are a best-in-class event; in my 30+ years in the business, there’s nothing like this in our industry. It achieves three essential things: fundraising for a great cause, team building, and peer networking through game day competition. I’m proud of how the commercial real estate community continuously rallies for this annual event and tremendously humbled to be chairing, especially when you look at each of the former chairs. I’m excited to help push the bar on fundraising and make this year’s Real Estate Games another high-impact event.”

“We are honored to have Paul as the 2023 Honorary Chair. His visionary leadership, commitment to philanthropy and partnerships with nonprofits in the community, make him the ideal person to serve in this capacity,” said Jaclyn Toll, Executive Director of the JDRF Mid-Atlantic Chapter. “Additionally, we are grateful to have Brian, Robin and Samantha serving as co-chairs alongside Paul. Together, they bring dedication, passion, and their network to help us reach our goals in support of research and advocacy. Their infectious energy will bring the Real Estate community together for what I know will be the best games yet.”

During the event, the company teams compete against each other in a tournament of games that include 3-on-3 basketball, volleyball, cornhole and Tug of War. There will also be a new surprise signature event added to the competition this year.
