Sanjoy Dutta, Ph. D

JDRF Associate Vice President, Research, and International Partnerships

Sanjoy Dutta, Ph.D., is the associate vice president of research and institutional partnerships at JDRF. He oversees all of the research programs to treat type 1 diabetes (T1D) and its complications, including the Artificial Pancreas, Glucose Control, Beta Cell Replacement and Complications portfolios. He is also responsible for international partnerships with world-leading government, non-government, foundation and commercial organizations. Dr. Dutta joined JDRF in 2009, and brings his drug development experience, managerial expertise and diabetes knowledge to JDRF’s mission.

Prior to coming to JDRF, Dr. Dutta was the associate director of translational medicine and clinical biomarkers at Bristol-Myers Squibb. Prior to Bristol-Myers Squibb, he was principal scientist of cardiovascular and metabolic diseases at Hoffmann-La Roche.

Dr. Dutta obtained his doctorate from the department of biochemistry and molecular biology at the University of Southern California and was a JDRF Postdoctoral Fellow in the department of cell biology and the Joslin Diabetes Center at Harvard Medical School. In his postdoctoral training, he developed and studied genetic models of diabetes.

Rob Howe

Rob Howe is a Type-1 Diabetic living in Dallas Texas. Diagnosed on January 1st, 2005 at the age of 16, Rob was the recipient of excellent care from the incredible endocrine staff of Children's Medical Center of Dallas. They assured him that as long as he took care of his health, he could achieve all the goals he had for his life.

After graduating as the Valedictorian of his High School class, Rob went on to receive a full collegiate scholarship to the University of Colorado - Colorado Springs to play basketball, and graduated with honors 4 years later with a Bachelor of Science in Business. Following graduation, Rob started his career in the marketing world at USA Boxing, working through the 2012 London Olympic Games. In the fall of 2013 Rob accepted an offer to play professional basketball for the Washington Generals against the World Famous Harlem Globetrotters on their 2012-13 World Tour and fulfill his lifelong dream of playing pro basketball.

Diabetics Doing Things was born out of the idea that not everyone receives the same kind of treatment during diagnosis that Rob received at Children's. Those people need to hear stories of their Diabetic peers who are out in the world living their lives and accomplishing the goals they've set for themselves. Through the telling of each other's stories, Rob hopes that Diabetics Doing Things will become a community built on encouragement, positivity, and hope for everyone with Type-1, while educating the general public on the hopes, struggles and thoughts of the Type-1 Diabetic community.

Rob is a Co-Founder and Managing Partner of Recreation Dallas, a boutique social and digital agency in Dallas Texas, while teaching and performing improv comedy at the Dallas Comedy House in his free time.
