in

The JDRF One Walk, Las Vegas 2016 is just about two weeks away and we are busy with the final details!

**Team Captains can stop by the office Monday, October 17th – Thursday October 20th to pick up their items and skip check in on walk day.**

WALKERS WITH T1D AND NEW FAMILY TEAMS

Each walker with T1D will receive a T1D Looks Like Me bandana. Each new family team will receive a draw string bag provided by Lilly Diabetes. Great for carrying all the items picked up in our diabetes vendor area.

ONE WALK TSHIRT

Any walker raising $100 or more will receive a JDRF One Walk t-shirt.

MILE OF HOPE

Teams that reached a $500 minimum fundraising total are eligible to receive a JDRF Mile of Hope sign to be displayed on Walk day. Teams that reach the $500 limit will receive additional instructions from the JDRF office with information on how to order their sign. The deadline for picture submission is Wednesday, October 12th.

BECOME A VIP

One Walk V1P’s are fundraisers who individually raise $1000 or more. Staff will communicate with V1Ps prior to event day regarding their One Walk event status. Be sure to wear the V1P lanyard Ā on the day of walk so everyone recognizes you are V1P. Ā The perks of being a V1P include V1P check-in, access the exclusive V1P Tent that will be manned with Board Members and staff throughout the event, and V1P food. You will also receive a special recognition award after the event.

TEAM VILLAGE

Any team raising at least $5,000 (Corporate, Family, or School) will have the option to host a tent in our Team Village this year. The deadline to qualify for the team village is Wednesday, October 12th. Our Team Village will host the second annual tent decorating contest and the winning team will be awarded the coveted Top Team Tent trophy.

T-SHIRT CONTEST

A t-shirt design contest will be held during the walk. If your team would like to participate, please bring a spare shirt to the t-shirt area prior to the beginning of the walk. Winning t-shirts will be announced from the stage and framed after the event to be presented back to the teams.
You may also choose to coordinate your team in similar color shirts or in the One Walk shirts provided to fundraisers.

Winners for the contest will be awarded in the following areas:

  • Best Corporate
  • Best Family
  • Best New Team
  • Best Use of JDRF One Walk Logo
  • Best Use of Team Name on T-Shirt
  • Most Creative
  • Judgesā€™ Choice

If designing a new shirt for 2016, keep the following items in mind:

  • Please use the JDRF One Walk logo and not the old JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes Logo. If you need a copy of the logo, email snicastro@jdrf.org
  • Please consider using an icon other than the JDRF sneaker as the sneaker is no longer represented on walk day.Ā
  • You could sell your T-Shirts to your team members at an increased price. The difference makes a great donation back to JDRF.
  • Bright colors for your T-Shirts always stand out more.

Here are some other FAQ about the walk:

Q. This is my first time participating in the walk. What can I expect on Walk day?

A. The JDRF One Walk is a time to celebrate and honor those who live with type 1 diabetes every day. The walk site will open at 9:00 am for check-in, T-shirt pick up, and pre-walk entertainment. The 5K walk kicks off at 10:00 am and travels throughout the UNLV campus.Ā Be sure to check out the JDRF Mile of Hope honoring our type 1 heroes on the walk route.

After the walk, please enjoy the music, lunch, and activities in our Activities Area!

We invite all new families to stop by the New Family Tent and introduce yourself to JDRF staff and outreach volunteers. Learn more about JDRF, our resource materials, and our outreach and networking opportunities. We want to meet you!

The walk will take place rain or shine.

REGISTRATION AND FUNDRAISING

Q. Do all members of my walk team need to register online, including children?

A. Yes. Registering online gives you access to a number of great fundraising resources and lets us keep you updated on the latest JDRF and Walk inforrmation. It also gives us an idea of how many people to expect at each Walk, so we can plan ahead for refreshments, T-shirts, and volunteer staffing.

Q. What are the fundraising minimums?

A. All registered guests are invited to participate in the walk. One Walk T-shirts are provided to walkers who raise a minimum of $100.

Q. I would like to turn in donations before walk day. How can I do this?

A. Donations can be accepted at any time by mailing to the JDRF office at 5542 S. Fort Apache Road, Suite 100, Las Vegas, NV 89148. Also, donations can be dropped off any time at the JDRF office.

EVENT DAY

Q. When I arrive on Walk Day what should I do first?

A. When you arrive on Walk Day, please proceed to the Check-In Tents to turn in any outstanding donations you have. If they have not already done so, Team Captains can also pick up the T-shirts and wristbands for their team members.

Q. Where do I park and what does it cost?

A. A free dedicated parking garage is available off Cottage Grove Ave (off Flamingo Rd). From the garage, it is just a few minute walk south towards the center of campus to the Walk site. Please note that limited parking is also available off Maryland Parkway just north of University Road which may be more accessible for strollers and wheelchairs.

Q. Will food be available?

A. Ā Jamba Juice and Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf will be provided for all participants in the morning before the walk begins. Nathan’s will be providing lunch for all participants and Coca-Cola is providing water and soda for our guests. We are thankful for our generous sponsors!

There are rest stops throughout the Walk route and a first aid station near the field. Glucose tabs are available upon request at each rest stop.

Q. What will the route be this year?

A. The map below includes the walk route, parking directions, and a site map for the event. Click here to download a printable version.

Q. Are pets allowed at the Walk?

A. Leashed pets are allowed on the UNLV campus, as it is a public facility. It has been our chapterā€™s policy to discourage pets on Walk Day due to the fact that dogs can react differently around large crowds of people and other dogs. We are not liable if incidents happen regarding pets at UNLV during walk day.

Q. Will Team Photos be available at the Walk?

A. Team Photos will be captured by a JDRF Volunteer Photographer during Pre and Post walk festivities.

Looking forward to seeing all the teams and celebrating our fundraising efforts on Saturday, October 22nd!
