Volunteer of the Month – Arlene Skinner

in

The Nevada Chapter Volunteer of the Month program is sponsored by our community partners at Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers. Each month we highlight one of our fabulous chapter volunteers and that volunteer will receive gift cards for free meals from Raising Cane’s.

We are pleased to announce our Raising Canes Volunteer of the Month for July is Arlene Skinner.

Arlene Skinner

Arlene began volunteering with JDRF shortly after her diagnosis in 2012. She actually found JDRF when a group she was volunteering with ended up at the same location as the JDRF walk kickoff. She signed up her walk team and never looked back!

Arlene is part of the team that plans the walk each year, and served as a family team coach for the walks in 2015 and 2016. In that role she helped contact our new teams and answered questions to help them prepare for walk day. Her two children also love to come into the office to help us stuff envelopes and sort papers to help us get ready for the walk. Arlene has even started calling teams for the 2017 walk!

Having been diagnosed with T1D as an adult, Arlene is a great advocate for our Adult T1D Connections group and serves as the co-chair. The Adult T1D Connections program connects both those diagnosed as adults and those diagnosed as children who have grown up with T1D. In her role as a co-chair, Arlene also contacts adults who are newly diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, helping them adjust to their new life with T1D for the first few years after diagnosis.

Thank you Arlene for the commitment of you and your family as JDRF volunteers!
