  • Finish Line Vision – Racing Ironman Triathlon with T1D

    In this keynote, Jay will share his story of managing and mastering T1D to race the Ironman triathlon on the US National Triathlon Team.  He will provide motivation and education for a child or adult, patient or provider, artist or athlete, or any person battling a chronic health condition, to work hard, overcome obstacles, balance obligations and reach your finish line of success.

  • Taking Your Diabetes to School/College – presented by Nevada PEP

    • Session is designed  for parents and caregivers to help answer questions on 504, IEP and college support information

    The Secrets to Developing Healthy Habits for Successful Diabetes Management – presented by Jennifer Moore, MSW, LCSW

    • Whether you are an individual living with type 1 diabetes or a parent raising a child with type 1 diabetes, learn how to develop healthy habits for successful diabetes management.

    T1D Technology Updates – panel discussion hosted by local pharmaceutical representatives

    • T1D product vendors share and answer question on new and existing diabetes technology

    PEAK (T1D Performance in Exercise and Knowledge) – presented by Colleen Corey, RD, CDE and Jay Hewitt

    • The PEAK program will address the statistically proven need for additional education for people with T1D, parents, and caregivers on how to participate in physical activity while managing their T1D. The curriculum is to provide comprehensive knowledge and support for people with T1D who would like to pursue a fitness-based lifestyle.
  • Please pick up children from the Kids’ Zone for lunch at 11:30.

  • When Possibility Becomes Reality: An update on type 1 diabetes research progress – presented by Cate Speake, PhD

    • This session will discuss a breakthrough trial in 2019 which showed that onset of type 1 diabetes can be delayed using immune therapy.

    T1D 101 – Back to Basics – presented by Julie Suckow, RD, LD, CDE

    • This session is geared for children and their families who have been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in the past year. A refresher of type 1 diabetes, carb counting, insulin, hypoglycemia, hyperglycemia and sick day management will be discussed.

    JDRF T1D Health Insurance Guide 2020

    • This session will introduce the JDRF T1D Health Insurance Guide. The guide includes information to help people with T1D and caregivers navigate potential barriers throughout treatment and how those can impact their health insurance costs, and a summary of the key takeaways that should be considered when looking at insurance options for the coming year.

  • Thriving with Diabetes:  Only You Alone Can Do It but You Can’t Do It Alone!

    This presentation will focus on helping people who live with diabetes understand that the ultimate responsibility for caring for themselves is “them.” But learning how to ask for and accept help and support from others is vital and critical to thriving.

  • This is an opportunity for those that are new to the T1D community, or those that just want to learn more, to ask questions of our presenters as well as teens, parents, and adults on how they live with and manage day to day T1D life.

Kids, Tweens, and Teens

Kids’ Zone: Children ages 5-10 participate in Kids’ Zone with learning, crafts, and exercise activities. Volunteer nurses are on hand for emergencies and glucose checks. Parents should drop off children participating in the Kids’ Zone by 9:00 AM. Children should be picked up for lunch at 11:30 a.m. The afternoon Kids’ Zone session is from 12:45 – 3:30 p.m.

Families registering for the Kids’ Zone will be sent an intake form shortly before the summit, to fill out for each child participating in the activities.

Tweens – A Mile in My Shoes: Tweens ages 11-13 participate in the specialized programming during the morning and afternoon breakout sessions. Tweens should attend the morning and afternoon keynote session with their parents. Parent pickup and drop off is not required for the tweens.

Teen Summit: Teens ages 14-17 participate in the Teen Summit during the morning and afternoon breakout sessions. Teens should attend the morning and afternoon keynote session with their parents. Parent pickup and drop off is not required for the Teen Summit.

During the morning breakout session, teens will participate in the “It’s Your T1D Life” with Jennifer Florendo and Dr. Parul Patel and learn how to tell their T1D story. In the afternoon, teens will participate in “Teen Talk: No Parents, No Judgement, No Guilt” with Deanna DeSimone and Erin Buttery. This session is an opportunity to meet, connect and share with their T1D peers, while learning how to manage and cope with T1D in school and other areas of life. Teens are free to express challenges without judgement or guilt will learning to advocate for themselves.
