Backyard BBQ Tips and Carb Counts

in

4th of July is here and so is the backyard BBQ. We thought it would be be nice to pass along a few tips and tricks to make your BBQ with Type 1 as easy as apple pie.

  • Stay Hydrated!  With the warm weather and more activity dehydration is a real concern.  Dehydration can cause blood glucose levels to sky-rocket so keep a bottle of water or a sprinkler close by!
  • Bring homemade food especially if you are going to someone else’s home, this allows you to control what your food options are. Most BBQs are potluck styled anyway! So, bring your favorite dish that you’ve already carb counted for and know how it affects you/your child’s body
  • Stay Active! To counteract highs, get moving.

Common BBQ food carb counts: (estimations)

  • Hamburger with a white bun: 21g
