Kicking off the JDRF One Walk – San Francisco: JDRF Bay Area Executive Director, Nicole Friedland; Airbnb CFO, Laurence Tosi; JDRF Junior Spokesperson, Chase Urban; Airbnb Senior Manager of Revenue Operations, Carlton McMillan; and JDRF Greater Bay Area Chapter Board Member, Karen Jordan.

Airbnb is all about discovering amazing places. JDRF is all about discovering research advances that will improve the lives of millions affected by type 1 diabetes (T1D). Together, we’re planning a to make a big impact at the JDRF One Walk – San Francisco, taking place on Sunday, October 23, 2016 on the Great Meadow at Fort Mason. Not only are senior leaders from Airbnb volunteering in key roles on our Walk committee this year, the company is generously supporting the Walk as a Presenting Partner at the $25,000 level.

Laurence Tosi, CFO of Airbnb, is serving as Corporate Chair for the JDRF One Walk – San Francisco. Under Laurenceā€™s leadership, this yearā€™s JDRF One Walk is sure to inspire more corporate participation. San Francisco businesses will have the opportunity to join an important cause while giving back to their community.

Carlton McMillan, Senior Manager of Revenue Operations at Airbnb, is serving as Team Captain for their corporate Walk team. In addition, Carlton and his wife Ansley McMillan are co-chairing the Walk, overseeing the committee and recruiting new walkers and volunteers.

ā€œWe support the JDRF One Walk because we care deeply about finding a cure for this disease. Based on the current research developments, we feel that we’re close! However, continued funding is critical to pushing us over the finish line. We believe in a world without T1D and work to contribute however we can to make this world a reality,ā€ says Carlton McMillan, Airbnb Walk Team Captain.

As they rally their Walk team, Airbnb is discovering many personal connections to T1D within their company. Some team members live with the disease themselves. Others have friends or close family members with T1D. ā€œWe deeply understand the impact that it has on the millions of those diagnosed, as well as their loved ones who are often heavily involved in management,ā€ says Carlton. ā€œWe’re committed to the cause for the long haul and will continue to serve as a champion for the prevention, treatment and ultimate cure of T1D!ā€

Airbnb will be hosting a Team Captain Kickoff on September 21 from 3:30-5:30 at their headquarters in San Francisco. Walkers will connect with others, hear about research progress, and collect other tools for successful fundraising.

ā€œAirbnb is setting the example for our community, giving both time and resources. We couldnā€™t be more excited and grateful for this partnership,ā€ says Kevin Oā€™Scanlon, JDRF One Walk Manager.
