National Diabetes Awareness Month and World Diabetes Day

This November, we invite the Type 1 Diabetes community to join us in recognition of National Diabetes Awareness Month (NDAM), a program focused on raising widespread awareness and action on behalf of millions of Americans living with the disease. Every year, NDAM unites supporters across the country through a variety of events and campaigns, with the mission of focusing attention on crucial issues associated with diabetes. This national event is an essential chance for individuals to make their voices heard; it provides a multitude of opportunities to promote public understanding of diabetes and progress toward the vital necessity of a cure. Locally, to help generate greater awareness, Dos Coyotes restaurants throughout northern and central California will be adding NDAM information on their order number table placards.Ā  Each card will include the differences between Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes, as well as contact information for the local JDRF office.Ā  We offer our thanks to owner Bobby Coyote and executive chef Mark Casale for making this opportunity available.

On November 14, we will celebrate World Diabetes Day (WDD), a large-scale campaign with the mission of ā€œtaking coordinated and concerted actions to confront diabetes as a critical global health issueā€. Since 1991, WDD has served as a force of information and activism for an international audience, unifying billions of diabetic individuals through a variety of health-related projects and events. The Yuba-Sutter Diabetes Support & Resource Center will hold a Luminary Event on the 14th, in support of World Diabetes Day. The event will begin at 5:00 PM at Town Square Fountain, on 461 Plumas Blvd.Ā  Participants will honor loved ones with T1D by lighting luminary bags at dusk, and bracelets will be available for $3. JDRF will be there to celebrate WDD and pass out information.

Lastly, in recognition of NDAM, Menchieā€™s Frozen Yogurt, located at 484 Howe Avenue in Sacramento, will be donating a portion of proceeds from all sales on Saturday, November 18th.Ā  Stop by for a tasty treat and help support JDRF!

This November, take time to reflect on the astounding progress we have made in the realm of T1D research, and the promising future that lies ahead. This month is a perfect time to get involved in events that advance the core missions of the T1D community. We encourage you to take action, speak out, and make the most of National Diabetes Awareness Month!
