Triangle One Walk

in

On October 16th, the Triangle JDRF Market held its first “Sunday Fun-Day” style One Walk, presented by Novo Nordisk, at the beautiful Koka Booth Amphitheatre in Cary, NC. With over 3,000 attendees and 166 teams raising more than $665,000 to fund life-changing research and treatments.

This year’s walk included a 1.3 mile walk along the greenway and added a whole lot of tail-gate style fun including several food trucks, Kids Zone with lots of activities for all ages, t-shirt contest, sponsored by Moffat Pipe, live music from Stone Age Romeos playing during the after party sponsored by CRB.  The highlight of this year’s Walk was a brand-new element that is sure to become tradition: the T1D Procession. Hundreds of individuals of all ages, decked out in special T1D superhero capes, marched through the crowd and up to the stage, bearing signs emblazoned with the number of years they have lived with T1D. From “newly diagnosed” to “21+ years,” these signs only told a small part of each person’s incredible story of strength and fortitude. It was an inspiring moment to witness, reminding us all why we fight so hard for a CURE!

To all of our local sponsors who supported this year’s Triangle One Walk on October 16th it was truly a day to celebrate and walk to change the future for everyone living with T1D. Our registration and fundraising would not be where it is today without our top-notch sponsors. A special thank you to this year’s Presenting Sponsor Novo Nordisk who has gone above and beyond this year and have been true partners through this event season. We would like to also thank Nature’s Twist for sponsoring a successful Registration & Kick-Off Match gift and donating water and lemonade for the walk, Becton Dickinson & Company (BD) for following it up later in the Walk campaign with a generous Mission Matching gift. We had more than 50 brand new Entrance of Hope Corporate Sponsors with signage stretched along our entrance pathway. South State Bank sponsored all of our V1P walkers who individually raised more than $1,000 in support of their walk teams. Other key sponsored included Hendricks Auto Group, Baker Roofing, SteelFab, Coastal Credit Union, Prevention Bio, Wake Med and Hampton Farms.

This year’s top teams in the Triangle raising over $20,000 each include March. Persevere. Inspire (over $90,000 raised); Novo Nordisk (over $85,000 raised); Emma’s Doubles for Diabetes (over $40,000 raised); and Team Trini/ Martz Family (over $27,000 raised), #MomsonaMissionXL (over $25,000 raised), Chapel Hill Will/ City Wide Facility Solutions (over $24,000 raised), Lyla’s Bugs/Team Snee (over $22,000 riased); and Life is sweet with NO SUGAR ADDED! JDRF One Walk is the largest T1D event in the world. Walk funds raised in the Triangle and across the country will power more research, enable more advocacy and fund more support for the 1.45 million Americans living with T1D.
